Poland student visa (D) and insurance rules for Bangladeshi students — €30,000 cover

Quick answer: To study in Poland you need a national (D) visa. Bangladeshis apply through the Embassy of Poland in New Delhi — register on e-Konsulat, then submit at VFS. Your travel medical insurance must be at least €30,000, valid in the Schengen area for your whole stay, and issued by a company on Poland's approved insurer list.

Got your admission letter from a Polish university? This guide explains, step by step, where Bangladeshi students apply, which papers the embassy wants, and the insurance rule that catches many applicants out.

C visa or D visa — which one do you need?

VisaHow longFor
C (Schengen)Up to 90 days in any 180 daysVisits, business, short courses
D (national)More than 90 days, up to 1 yearUniversity study, work, family

A Bachelor's, Master's or PhD programme needs a D visa.

Where do Bangladeshi students apply?

  • The Embassy of Poland in New Delhi handles national visas for Bangladesh (along with Afghanistan, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka).
  • Register on e-Konsulat first. Since 2 July 2024 every study visa application must be registered there. Slots are given in order of registration — new slots open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00 (New Delhi time).
  • Fill in the VFS form online too — it is mandatory before your VFS visit.
  • Submit in person at the VFS centre and collect your passport there.
  • The embassy decides within 30 calendar days of receiving your file.
  • You will need an Indian visa to travel to New Delhi for your appointment.

⚠️ The embassy says it does not work with agents or intermediaries for visas. Register on e-Konsulat yourself.

Student (D) visa document checklist

From the embassy's "Checklist for Polish national visa — study" (May 2026), in this order:

  1. Passport — issued in the last 10 years, valid 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, 2 blank pages.
  2. Visa application form (signed twice) and one photo (35×45 mm, white background).
  3. The checklist itself.
  4. Covering letter — purpose and length of your trip, and a list of your documents.
  5. Admission letter (original) from the university, proof of tuition payment, and your certificates. For a first-year Bachelor's, your HSC needs a recognition statement from NAWA (Poland's recognition agency).
  6. Language certificate — at least B2.
  7. Flight reservation — one way, reservation only.
  8. Travel medical insurance — see the next section.
  9. Accommodation proof — lease or dormitory decision, showing the monthly cost.
  10. Proof of money — living costs of PLN 1,010 per month, plus accommodation and PLN 2,500 for the return trip (bank certificate, card limit certificate, scholarship letter, or a notarised sponsor letter).
  11. Proof that you live in Bangladesh (for example your national ID).

Always download the latest checklist from the Embassy of Poland in New Delhi before you apply.

Insurance for a Poland student visa — the rules

This is the part most students get wrong. The checklist asks for travel medical insurance that:

  • ✓ covers at least €30,000;
  • ✓ pays for emergency treatment, repatriation for medical reasons and repatriation in case of death;
  • ✓ is valid in the Schengen area for your entire stay;
  • ✓ is printed (not handwritten), with your name in English letters;
  • ✓ is issued by a company on Poland's list of approved insurers.

What is the approved insurer list?

Polish law (the Act on Foreigners, since 1 December 2020) sets extra conditions for insurers that cover national visas — for example a 24-hour assistance centre, and for insurers based outside Europe, published audit results and regular financial data. Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes a list of insurers that meet these conditions, country by country.

Before you buy any policy for a D visa, open the latest list on the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa page and check that your insurer is on it. If you are unsure, ask the embassy in New Delhi before your appointment.

After you arrive in Poland

Once you are a student in Poland you can also join Poland's public health insurance (NFZ) voluntarily — many universities help international students with this. Ask your university's international office.

Short visit to Poland? (C visa)

For a visit, business trip or short course of up to 90 days, you need a Schengen (C) visa and the usual Schengen insurance: €30,000, valid in all Schengen countries, for your whole trip.

Change in 2026: the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka stopped handling Polish Schengen visas on 15 April 2026. If Poland is your main destination, check the current route with the Polish authorities before you plan your trip.

For a short-stay Schengen visa, MIIPLC's Business & Holiday plan costs 1,687 BDT for 14 days (ages up to 40, including VAT, prices checked 23 October 2026).
