Quick answer: The Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka lists "Travel insurance with QR code" among the required visa documents — a policy whose certificate carries a QR code that can be scanned to confirm it is genuine. The embassy issues single-entry visas only, for stays of up to 60 days, so the policy should cover your whole trip. The tourist visa fee is BDT 8,000 (BDT 16,000 for business), and processing takes 10–15 working days.
Bali, Jakarta, Lombok — Indonesia has become one of the favourite holiday destinations for Bangladeshis. But putting the visa file together, many people get stuck on one line: "Travel insurance with QR code". Which company? What does the QR code have to do? Will the insurance an agency throws into a "package" be accepted?
This guide uses the embassy's own published requirements to put everything in one place — the insurance, the documents, the fees and the mistakes that get applications refused.
💡 In a hurry? Get a quote now — choose "Business & Holiday" and "Indonesia" on the form.
Is travel insurance required for an Indonesia visa?
Yes. The Embassy of Indonesia in Dhaka (KBRI Dhaka) takes visa applications through its own online appointment portal (indonesiavisa-dhaka.org). Its "Required Documents" list includes, alongside a confirmed ticket and hotel booking, travel insurance with a QR code.
The embassy does not state a minimum cover amount. Choose a policy that includes at least:
- Emergency medical treatment and hospitalisation — private hospitals in Indonesia are expensive for foreigners.
- Emergency evacuation and repatriation.
- Your full travel dates — from the outbound flight to the return.
- A QR code on the certificate that shows the policy details when scanned.
Why the QR code matters
There is a reason the embassy spells out "QR code". Fake or edited insurance certificates are a long-standing problem in visa applications. With a QR code, an officer can confirm in one scan that the policy really exists, whose name it is in and which dates it covers.
So if an agency offers you a "package with insurance", check three things before paying: which insurance company issued the policy, whether the certificate has a QR code, and whether scanning it shows your name and dates.
How to apply, step by step
- Book online — create an account on the embassy portal, indonesiavisa-dhaka.org, with email OTP verification and pick a date and time. The fee is paid online through the portal.
- Upload documents — the documents listed below.
- Visit the embassy — on your appointment day, go to the embassy in Gulshan-2 with the appointment QR code and your original documents. Submission is Sunday to Thursday, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
- Collect your passport — between 3:00 and 5:00 pm once processing is complete.
ℹ️ On Indonesia's official eVisa site (evisa.imigrasi.go.id), choosing a tourism visa with a Bangladeshi passport shows that the application has to be made by an Indonesian guarantor or sponsor. That is why most Bangladeshis apply through the embassy in Dhaka.
Document checklist
What the embassy portal asks for:
- Passport — original + copy, at least 6 months' validity and 2 blank pages.
- Travel history for the past 5 years — a one-page list or table.
- Bank statement — at least USD 2,000 or BDT 2 lakh, covering 3 months, plus an original bank cheque.
- 2 passport-size photos — white background.
- Cover letter — clearly stating the purpose of the trip.
- Confirmed ticket and confirmed hotel booking (with email confirmation).
- Travel insurance with QR code.
- NOC or letter from your employer and a copy of your employee ID; business owners need a trade licence + TIN.
- A marriage certificate if your spouse is travelling with you; with an Indonesian invitation, the invitation letter and a copy of the sponsor's KTP (Indonesian ID card).
The checklist changes from time to time — compare against the latest version on the portal before you book.
Fees, timing and embassy rules
| Item | What the embassy states |
|---|---|
| Tourist visa (tourism, family visit, medical treatment, conferences) | BDT 8,000 |
| Non-tourist visa (business, purchasing goods, trading) | BDT 16,000 |
| Visa type | Single-entry only, maximum stay 60 days |
| Processing time | 10–15 working days |
| Applications per day | Maximum 60 |
| Refunds | Fees are non-refundable |
Two more rules that catch people out:
- Agencies cannot submit for you. The embassy does not accept applications through third-party agencies. In unavoidable cases a representative from the same institution may submit, with the embassy's prior approval.
- Dress code. Formal or semi-formal clothes and proper shoes are required. Visitors in T-shirts, shorts or sandals are refused entry to the premises.
What if my passport is new?
The embassy does not accept fresh passports — passports with no previous travel stamps — for tourist visas. Exceptions may apply to immediate family members with travel history, groups applying from the same company or institution, and non-tourist visa categories. If this would be your first trip abroad, consider a nearby country first.
How long should the policy run?
From your departure date to your return date — the whole trip. The visa allows up to 60 days, so you will never need longer. Add a day or two as a buffer in case a flight is delayed.
The embassy wants a confirmed ticket dated 15–30 working days after submission. So fix your ticket dates first, then buy the insurance for exactly those dates — a mismatch between the policy and the ticket raises questions.
On MIIPLC's quote form, choosing "Business & Holiday (Travelling)" and "Indonesia" sets the right plan automatically, with terms of 14, 21, 28, 35, 47 or 60 days.
What it costs
Indonesia is outside the Schengen area, so cover costs less. For a traveller aged up to 40, a 14-day policy starts from 1,350 BDT including VAT. The price changes with age and the length of the policy — it goes up above age 40 and for longer trips.
💰 Put your age, destination (Indonesia) and days into the quote tool and your exact figure appears straight away.
Mistakes that get files stuck
1. A certificate without a QR code, or one that cannot be verified. The embassy asks for a QR code. A plain PDF or printout that cannot be checked anywhere is a risk.
2. Dates that do not match. Ticket, hotel and insurance must all describe the same trip. The embassy portal itself warns that even a small date mistake can lead to refusal — and there is no second chance.
3. A weak bank statement. At least BDT 2 lakh or USD 2,000 over three months — and an explanation ready for any large, sudden deposit.
4. Applying at the last minute. Processing takes 10–15 working days and the embassy recommends applying two months ahead. Fees are non-refundable, so do not rush it.
Why a MIIPLC policy
- A QR code on every certificate — the embassy, or anyone, can scan it to confirm the policy is genuine.
- Medical cover of up to USD 50,000 for non-Schengen countries including Indonesia — shown on your quote.
- An IDRA-regulated, Shariah-based general insurer, operating since 1996.
- Fully online; pay by bKash, Nagad, card or internet banking, and the certificate usually arrives within minutes.

Before you go
Insurance is a small piece of paper in an Indonesian visa file, but the embassy looks at it closely — a QR code, the right name, and dates that match your ticket. Fees are not refunded, so get it right the first time.
As soon as your ticket dates are fixed, sort out the insurance.
